Consultations

For consultations, you can phone (01225 427999) or call in to book an appointment at reception (in the shop). We cannot take bookings by e-mail.

Your first appointment will last about one hour. The practitioner will take a full medical history and talk with you about your health generally and what is troubling you. She or he will carry out any necessary examinations and discuss lifestyle or dietary changes which may help. You will then be prescribed a combination of relevant herbal remedies to be made up for you in our dispensary.

Follow-up appointments take about half an hour. Changes in your condition will be discussed and the prescription adjusted appropriately.

This is a training clinic providing clinical experience for students of Herbal Medicine on various courses, and supervised treatment at reduced rates for clients.

What can I expect when visiting the clinic?

  • The consultation will be conducted by a 3rd or 4th year student and supervised by Sue Hawkey, B. Phil. Cert. Ed. FNIMH, an experienced Medical practitioner.
  • Several other students may be observing.
  • Your first visit could last up to an hour and half, but subsequent visits, if necessary, will be shorter. You may be asked to return within the month and subsequently for follow-up visits.
  • Your medical history, diet and lifestyle will be discussed and relevant physical examinations undertaken (e.g. blood pressure readings).
  • You will then be asked to wait while the students and supervising practitioner discuss the appropriate recommendations and prescription.
  • The student will then explain the treatment plan to you and, if appropriate, dispense herbal remedies.
